CLINIC DESCRIPTION
Assessment: Why should we assess? Is your horse great except
for one thing or does he have “issues?” If we view the relationship between
the rider and horse as a partnership rather than a dictatorship we need to
have the patience and understanding to recognize realistically what can be
achieved in a ride and what might not. This is not to say that your horse
is permitted to decide what you will and won’t do, but rather a way to
better educate yourself about your horse’s feelings, mood, mind set, and
physical state -- and how you can influence the quality and enjoyment of the
ride for both the horse and you.
Ground Work:
Having focused on
the ability to assess, we can then interact from the ground with our horse
in a safe setting to gain respect from our horse. By influencing their
mental, emotional and physical status by increasing our sensitivity and
awareness in the manner in which we communicate with them, we will help lay
the foundation of a trusting and respectful partnership.
Riding: Individual and
group riding sessions. Our goal will be to maintain our sensitivity and
availability to work with our horse from the saddle to encourage positive
and confident feelings in our horse. If our horse is feeling confident and
secure he will be more available to “hear” what we are asking of him and his
level of “try” will increase- creating a successful and rewarding ride.
