give pony parties, lessons and pony rides in Sandpoint, Idaho and Yuma, Arizona. In Idaho
in addition to parties, I take children (even first time riders) up and down
hills, over logs, teach them how to duck under branches, go
through puddles if there are any and some get to trot and even
canter. The wetlands sometimes have grass growing
6-8’ high, and I have a maze of trails through them and
several wooded areas. Children as young as two and three
years and up enjoy the rides. I
also use larger ponies or horses for older children, teens and

Lessons- For young children
Ride our horse/pony or
yours! We prioritize safety (helmets provided or bring your own) and the importance of
horsemanship. Depending on the individual’s focus and attention span we include
topics such as: catching the ponies, grooming, tacking & untacking, safe leading
& tying techniques, mounting- from a block, from the ground and emergency
dismounting, veterinary care, trim/shoeing information, stable management
skills, trailer loading experience, and so on. We try to keep the lessons varied
and encourage students to ride English, Western or both in enclosed
arenas (starting in 60’ round pens), over poles, on our “beginner trails” (with
an instructor), playing an array of games that help improve balance,
coordination and confidence in the student and much more! WE NOW OFFER A
LESSON/PRACTICE PROGRAM! see below.
Good students out for a special
Pony Pals now offers beginner lessons to adults and youth over 65 lbs. on our
horses. (Confident students and those with their own horses may qualify to
ride with Sam. )
Single lessons for one hour $60 on
our horse/pony or yours.
Option 2- Qualified students may ride a pre-scheduled hour each day
on our horse/pony in the arena area or on our trails up to 4 mornings a week
(M-F) in addition to one weekly lesson. Each non-lesson ride is $15.
We have helmets available
in a variety of sizes but find that most students prefer to purchase their own
for $35-50+. Leather footwear that covers the ankle and has a heel such as any
English or Western boot works well. Jeans can be comfortable while riding
Western but English riders prefer the seam placement in britches (jodphurs for
children). We can offer you many on-line, catalog and store options for your
purchases. Some people prefer to ride with riding gloves but they are totally
optional. A water bottle for yourself and in Idaho during some summers, bug spray of your choice may come in handy. TEC shirts and caps
always available too!
Unmounted Evening Horsemanship
A great way to increase your horsemanship knowledge. Especially designed
those who would some day like to own a horse and be comfortable with its care.
Comprehensive equine instruction (unmounted--no riding involved) including:
horsemanship, stable management, vet knowledge, travel safety, conditioning,
more). Designed for children (from age 7) and adults. Indoor evening classes
from 7-8 p.m. on the second and fourth Wednesday each month.
Rates: $8 per person for the first family member, $5 for the second family
member, $2.50 for additional family members. Bring a chair! Please RSVP. Classes will start promptly.
